Expanding Our Impact & Taking Care of the Place We Love

For 70 years the Portland Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary has served as the hub for our work in conservation, education, and wildlife rehabilitation, connecting hundreds of thousands of people to nature. It’s not only our base of operations, it’s also our most valuable tool to inspire people to love and protect the natural world.

Now, after decades of supporting us in our mission, our well-loved facilities are long overdue for renewal and modernization. That’s why we are excited to announce this crowdfunding campaign to build a new Wildlife Care Center and revitalize our entire campus, ensuring we can continue to inspire people for generations to come. We are excited to announce that as of today we have raised more than $3 million towards our $3.5 million goal.  Make a gift today to help us make Portland Audubon’s sanctuary and facilities even more impactful for those we serve.

Read a more in-depth account of all of these projects in our special issue of the Warbler.

Thanks to your help, we’ll be able to:

Build a New Wildlife Care Center

Build a new Wildlife Care Center: By adding a second floor, surgical suite, increased capacity for staff and volunteers, and other major improvements, we’ll be able to expand our care for the 4,000 wildlife we treat each year, and provide increased support to help the public humanely resolve conflicts with wildlife.

Expand Nature Education & Access

We are completely reimagining all our signage and interpretive displays, improving our classroom spaces, building an accessible trail to the education birds, and adding demonstration projects like a Backyard Habitat native garden and bird-safe windows.

Upgrade & Renovate Our Facilities

With updates to flooring, siding and offices, as well as a complete remodel of our Nature Store, and new efficient heating, water and electricity saving devices, we will dramatically improve our space for the public.

Thank you so much for helping to make this campaign a reality. Together, we get to take care of the sanctuary we all love so much—a place that has hosted hundreds of thousands of visitors, put tens of thousands of animals back in the wild, and sparked people’s passion for birds and wildlife.
